Basic Tan Maintenance and Tanning Processes
Q: Is it okay to shower after I tan?
A: Yes, it is okay to shower after a tan, however bathing dehydrates the skin. Your skin tans up to 48 hours. Therefore, during this time, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated, so be sure to moisturize the skin immediately after showering to prevent any moisture loss.
Q: Is my regular moisturizer the same as an indoor tanning lotion?
A: No, a moisturizer’s sole purpose is to add moisture to the skin. Indoor tanning lotions moisturize the skin, accelerate and maximize your tanning session, contain vitamins and anti-oxidants to nourish and repair the skin.
Q: Why do my legs take longer to tan?
A: Everyone has an area of their body that is more difficult to tan than others. The skin’s level of melanin production is much lower in this part of your body than others. However, there are many lotions that can help stimulate more melanin production in these areas. Just ask a Desert Tan professional when you visit the studio, and we will be happy to help.
Base Tans and Sun Protection Factors (SPFs)
Q: What are the advantages of building a base tan before my vacation?
A: Our bodies have the ability to develop a natural Sun Protection Factor ( SPF) of 4, which means that with a dark base tan, your natural skin will allow you to stay out in the sun four times longer than without a tan. Additionally, with a base tan, you’ll look amazing in your swimsuit as soon as you hit the beach, without running the risk of burning on the first day, and spending the remainder of your trip recuperating.
Q: Which is better, a natural SPF or the SPF found in lotions?
A: There is a lot of controversial information about the chemicals found in SPF lotions. A natural SPF is much healthier for the skin than a chemical solution, which can be absorbed by our blood through our skin. Do your research when choosing an SPF, especially when choosing one for your children.
Q: Do my session packages expire?
Yes. All session packages expire after 2 years from date of purchase.
Q: How old do you have to be to tan?
A: Clients must be 18 years or older to tan at Desert Tan
Q: Can I share my session packages?
A: Absolutely! Session packages can be shared with family members or friends.
Q: Can I share my unlimited monthly package?
A: Unfortunately, in order to continue to offer our clients affordable, unlimited tanning, unlimited monthly plans cannot be shared.
Q: What time is the last tanning session of the night?
A: Desert Tan is open until 8/8:30 p.m. on weekdays. We are open until 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 5 p.m. on Sundays. You may enter the studio any time before closing as long as the tanning unit of your choice is available and ready for use.
